Frequently Asked Questions
How Can I Help?
What is Trigger Point Dry Needling?
Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling is a physical medicine, therapeutic and diagnostic technique with a purpose of neutralizing dysfunction in soft tissue and to restore muscle and fascial function. This procedure acts to mechanically disrupt physiologically locked tissue. This is accomplished by inserting a small, thin gauge, monofilament needle into the affected tissue.
This procedure is not to be confused with Accupunture. Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling is based on western concepts of anatomy, physiology, neurology and biomechanics.
Dry Needling has been shown to be highly effective in treatment of acute and chronic pain.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
No. As a practicing physical therapist in the state of New Hampshire, I am licensed to evaluate and treat patients without a referral from your doctor. However, some insurances will require that you obtain a doctor's order to receive reimbursement for treatment.
What can I expect during a visit?
I will arrive at your home or work space with all of the necessary therapy tools and equipment. I will take all of the necessary hygiene precautions to insure your safety.
During my first visit you will be asked to fill out an initial intake form, medical history and all necessary consent forms. Additionally, you will have a thorough initial evaluation to determine the appropriate plan of treatment.
I will spend and hour (or sometimes more) during each visit so that you will be provided the best possible treatment.

Physical Therapy
HAPT is an out-of-network practice. This means that payment is accepted at the time of service. After treatment you will receive an invoice that you may submit to your insurance company. This will allow you to receive some form of reimbursement for these services. Often times the patient may pay the same (or even less) than their co-pays for in-network physical therapy practices. Some insurances require a doctor's order for successful reimbursement.
Why is a cash-based physical therapy practice better than a traditional insurance-based practice?
Having the freedom to practice physical therapy without restrictions.
Hour-long sessions that provide more effective treatment
A high-level commitment is made between the therapist and patient.
Both the patient and therapist are invested in the best possible outcomes.
